Felting by using an industrial needle is fairly new to the needle arts, but is rapidly gaining in popularity. It’s an almost magical way to sculpt with fiber. We have the needles, finger gloves, foam boards, and of course, felting fiber that you’ll need to make beautiful creations like those pictured here.

Wet Felting

Felting is the process by which wool fiber is matted into a fabric. Wool fibers have scales and are also crimpled. When these fibers are wetted and softened and then rubbed together, they grab each other and are permanently bound together. This happens when you put a wool sweater in a washer and agitate it — it comes out much smaller and also denser, because the fibers have bound together. It is a great way to make wonderful hats, bags and so much more!
